Zhinvali Reservoir is located in the basin of the Aragvi River. It was formed in 1986 after building a dam on the river. The reservoir is leading its way through the mountains that are covered with forests.
On the way to Ananuri we pass by the Khorkhi Gorge. This area contributes to the landscapes and green sights of the tour.
Ananuri Castle is located on the Aragvi River, too. The monument belongs to the 17th century. The fortifications and towers enclose two churches, one of them including the important Church of Assumption. Both churches feature ornamental carvings and colorful frescoes. From the area you overlook Aragvi Gorge.
