Zhinvali Reservoir is located in the basin of the Aragvi River. It was formed in 1986 after a dam was built on the river. The reservoir winds through leafy forest-covered mountains.
On the way to Ananuri, you pass the Khorkhi Gorge which has stunning scenery and greenery.

Ananuri Castle is located on the Aragvi River, too. This 17th century monument has fortifications and towers that enclose two churches, one of them being the important Church of Assumption. Both churches feature ornamental carvings and colourful frescoes. The monument overlooks the Aragvi Gorge.
