The tour begins in Tbilisi and takes you to the districts of Kakheti that are especially interesting in terms of different wine technology and preserved old cellars.
The first stop is Sighnaghi - the smallest Georgian city with colourful houses and narrow cobbled streets. The city has preserved remnants of old wine cellars.
From there it's on to Mirzaani to see the special wine made by ‘Pirosmani technology'. Pirosmani was an outstanding Georgian artist who was born in Mirzaani. Wine in Mirzaani is made using the Pirosmani technology.
The next stop is the Bodbe Monastery. It is a small modest monastery, but is unique since St. Nino's tomb is situated here. St. Nino was the one who converted Georgians to Christianity in the fourth century AD and her tomb is held in great esteem by Georgians.
After visiting the monastery, the tour heads to Tsinandali where you discover how old Georgians used to make wine. The historic winery of Tsinandali, where European and centuries-long Georgian winemaking traditions were combined, belonged to a Georgian aristocrat and poet, Alexander Chavchavadze who lived in the 19th century. His palace, surrounded by an ornamental garden is worth a visit.
From nobility to the peasants! The next stop is the local family of the Nikolaishvilis in Tsinandali where we taste home-made red and white wine and have a dinner.
