Place of event: Gergeti Trinity Church, Kazbegi Region
This day Georgians celebrate Assumption of the Virgin Mary. The day itself is an embodiment of Georgian style of life: feasts full of delicious meals and elaborate toasts, polyphonic songs and amazing dances follow the liturgy that is held in the morning at Gergeti Trinity Church.
Georgians believe after the liturgy the feast is blessed by God and they gather at the foot of the hill the church is situated on, kill sheep, lay tables with Mtsvadi (barbecue) and Georgian wine and begin toasting. Among the toasts Georgian traditional dances and songs are performed. Singers and dancers are dressed in Georgian traditional clothes. Guests are invited to each of the feasts to toast to this wonderful day.
