Cattle Drive from Tusheti

See shepherds taking cattle from the high mountains of Tusheti area to the lowlands of Kakheti Region. Flocks of cattle form a long line in the hills and meadows which will catch your eye. Organised shepherds, watchful dogs and loaded horses lead the cows and sheep.
They are ready to face the rain and sun, or hail and clouds. Nights come with gatherings at the fireplace, telling various stories and recalling legends. This event is a new experience, one of the best reflections of the local, Tushetian lifestyle. The cows and sheep are moved up the hills of Tusheti in summer, in order to make use of healthy greenery of the mountains and contribute well to the cattle's health. At the beginning of October snow comes to Tusheti. These conditions make the cattle's drive from Tusheti to the low Kakheti region by the end of September.
